Q: I'm just wondering, what is every ones favorite game to shoot?? And Why?? What calibre is your favorite and what animals do you use it on? WHat model is it? I would have to say my favorite game would be moose. I have hunted moose for about 20 years now and have got about 7 bulls and 6 cows and 2 calfs. I use a 270. win and a 300. wsm in the models Browning A-Bolt Medallion and a Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker. My second favorite game would be caribou.
A: Caribou. They are extremely clean animals, have an almost barnyard scent to them. They are beautiful animals, eat only likens, and because of their diet never need to be hung for a few days. Barrel to freezer the same day. No muss. No fuss. Caribou are very cool to hunt when you have more than one hunter. If you can pick out the lead bull and drop him - the rest of the caribou will loiter around untill a new leader is decided. This can take 20-30 minutes. A real problem when single hunting - you are tying to gut the leader and the rest are standing right next to you....... and other hunters could be shooting in your direction! They will not shoo away no matter how hard you try to scare them. Probably pet on if you wanted. Anyway - plenty of time for hunter 2, 3, 4, or 5, to fill their tags as well. They are pretty co-operative that way. I have a 30 year old Remington 308 Win Model 700 I use for Fall hunts and a stainless 243 Ruger for winter hunts. Both fall and winter hunts offer the challenge of a long range shot - and the unlikly chance of walking around a corner and stumbling across one at point blank range. You never know what the range will be or how many you will encounter. The trick is shooting the right one and not having your bullet exit the main target and hit another standing behind it. Hope this helps
