Q: What are some signs I use look for when choseing a spot to catfish. Any type of water fishing. lake, rive, creek, canal. Plus any tips. Also does throwing moss in the water work well to get the cats biteing? heard they feed on moss.
A: It depends on what is in the moss. But that's a new one to me. I was out catfishing over the weekend and we managed to boat quite a few on shad that we caught by cast netting as the schools swam around the boat. This was the predominate forage species in the creeks over the weekend and the catfish loved them. But to show you how aggressive these fish are I also caught some on the spinnerbait I was throwing for largemouth bass. Mostly channel cats in the 10 lb. range, but what a fight. I was targeting structure on the creek edges, downed trees, small feeder creeks and drainages, stumps and points. Most of this structure held some kind of fish, bass, catfish, carp or tiger muskies and all of these had some type of bait hanging around. That's why the predators hang around these areas... food! As I have stated before I prefer cut bait (fish). If you want to attract the fish to your area cut some bait up into small chunks and throw it into the water to get the scent working, toss out your bait and fish it close to the bottom. You are going to bring in the fish this way. It works. Best of luck to you!
