Braided or mono on casting reel?

Q: I'm a beginner in using bait casting reels and was wondering if I should start off with using braided or mono line? I like using braided line on my spinning reels and want to continue on casting reels, but afraid the knots will be way to hard to untangle if i have a backlash.

A: Jeff, You definitely want to start with the mono or flourocarbon lines. I fish for fresh and saltwater fish, and I use a lot of different rods but I love my baitcaster. However, when I get a backlash with braid I usually wind up retiring the rod until I get home and have the time to dig the knots out or (most of the time) cut the line off and respool. I have found the braid to be frustrating when it gets tangled. I suggest you practice casting with the monofilament and when you feel proficient move up to the braid. Hope this saves you some frustration and keeps you fishing. Tight lines!
