Q: When I say fish i do not mean shark and whale i mean like tuna and swordfish.
A: There was an 1805 pound blue marlin caught in Hawaii in 1970. That's the largest non-shark fish I've heard of being caught on rod and reel. The official record Pacific Blue Marlin is 1402 pounds, Black Marlin is 1560. According to Wikipedia, the largest bluefin tuna weighed 1496 pounds (I googled a bit and found no mention of any larger ones anywhere, either sport of commercially caught). The record swordfish (caught on rod & reel) weighed 1182 pounds, though they've been reported to 1400.
