Q: I will be climbing Mount Whitney in October and am wondering what the best excercises would be to help get me in tip top shape. I have been running and doing hill workouts all summer long but would like other suggestions that will really kick my butt and get me ready. Besides squats and weighted step ups, does anyone have recommendations or a excercise plan that has worked well for you?
A: Lots of flights of stairs are a good one, like going to a high-rise apartment building and going up and down all day, is good, but it sounds like you've already got that covered! Or the classic, go to a football stadium and run up and down all the flights of stairs in the stands.
