Q: My family wants to start camping. We have a large family so we want to be prepared when we start our new adventure. Which is easier to use?
A: Propane is a better choice, since it burns hotter and doesn't need any special preparation like Sterno. I can't help you in stove choice, since I don't know if you are backpacking or will have access to a vehicle. A small backapacking stove cooked for ~12 hungry Boy Scouts and leaders on a backpacking trip, so they work (it took a while, but it got done) but two will be even better. Propane bottles also last a good long time, but do need to be replaced eventually. If you shake the bottle and there is no liquid sloshing around, then you need to replace it.
